My knee is a lot better now. I haven't been able to do any jumps on it yet though. If I am able to jump on it soon, then I can maybe compete in the Suomi-Ruotsi maaottelu... :D

Today I decided not to attend the World Championships 2009 in Berlin. My knee is still sore and there is not enough time for it to heal before the Berlin games... :(

Summer 2009

Hello hello!

Now I am back in Turku after a month of travelling (Vaasa one week, Lithuania the second week, Joensuu and Lapinlahti the third, and then Vaasa and Esbo the fourth). I've competed 7 times so far this summer:

Kuortane Eliittikisat 4.10m, 2nd.

Someron Seiväskarnevaalit 4.05m, 2nd.

Lapuan Eliittikisat 4.36m, 3rd. (I held the Finnish record for an incredible FIVE MINUTES, Wow! :P)

The European Championships U23 4.35m, 3rd. (BRONS MEDAL!!! Yaaay :DDD This has been this season's coolest competition...)

Joensuu Eliittikisat 4.26m, 2nd. (These jumps felt really easy to do because my speed was really good! I should've just switched to a longer and stiffer pole when I jumped on 4.36...hmm)

Lapinlahti Eliittikisat 4.30m, 2nd. (Nearly cleared 4.40m)

Kalevan Kisat (The Finnish Championships) 4.00m, 2nd. (öö.. hmm... yeah.. not so good but I still came second in the competition. My knee was really sore in the qualification competition the day before. In the evening it was really bad and I was wondering if I'd have to skip the finals. Luckily it was better in the next day but it still it distracted me a lot)

So now I'm back in Turku. The plan now is to get my knee in shape before the World Champs. I've had the "jumpers knee" before... it comes from when the muscles in the leg are too stiff.

A New Season to Look Forward to

The winter season is now completed and I have started to train for the summer season. I jumped in three competitions: PM kisat in Turku (4,05m), The Finnish Championships in Vaasa (4,15m) and the Finnish Championships for 22 year olds in Turku (4,02m). Overal I am quite pleased about my jumping. Nevertheless, the traningrutines where quite patchy since I shifted to another city in the middle of the season.

So now the "real" season is ahead :D For the next six weeks I will be training a lot in order to increase my strenth and speed. After that more tecnique will be in focus...

Finnish Indoor Championships 2009

The 21.02.09 I am planning to compete in the Finish Indoor Championships. This year it will be held in Botniahallen which is 5km from Vaasa. I have lived in Vasa for nearly ten years so it will be very exciting to compete there again.

Hi!

Here is a video of Kalevan Kisat 2008 (the Finnish outdoor championships). I jumped 4.30m in this competition and with that recieved a ticket to the Beijing Olympics competitions. It was my second best result from the summer season 2008 (My best, 4.31m, was made in Sopot (Poland) in the beginning of the summer)

On 27/07/2007 Vanessa won the Finnish Womens Polevaulting Championship and a place on the Finnish Team to the Beijing Olympics

Successful indoor season 2008

Vanessa has now ended a successful indoor 2008 competition season. Her main accomplishments where:

First place in the Finish championships in Joensuu where she also jumped a new Finnish indoor record: 4.30m,
First place in the 19 year olds' Finish championships in Jyväskylä clearing 4.20m
Earlier setting the 19 year olds' Finish record in Kuortane 4.22m

At the moment she has now started training for the summer season 2008.
